💭 7 things I’ve learnt in 7 years of Questing (and you could too if you join our Quest in May)
Long before Creative Quests was a programme & community - I was exploring new themes in my spare time month by month. As a way to explore creativity outside of my day job. 7 years later - I’m still going. Here are some things I’ve learnt.
Creativity is fluid. It will fill the spaces you open up for it. When you let go of what you think your creativity is or should be - you get closer to the potential of what it could be. With each new Quest - I have been proven wrong about what I thought my creativity was and have opened up new space for it to fill.
We all perceive the world differently. Our experience of life and the things we care about shape our day to day reality. This comes to live vividly on a Quest as everyone approaches our theme differently. Creativity is our perception in action! Expand your perception = expand your creativity.
Beginners are lucky, so begin! We so often avoid trying new things for risk of not being good or looking foolish. Often we are much better than we think we might me. If we aren’t - what is lost? Vulnerability is fertile ground for growth
Adventure is an attitude. I feel like I have been on 7 gap years since living the Quest life and I have mostly stayed in the UK. Refreshing your perspective with new themes each Quest is a simple and seriously powerful way of experiencing your world differently.
Passionate people are perception enhancing cheat codes. Here’s a game I like to play when I meet a new person. Steer the conversation toward the things that they are passionate about. Light their fuse with your curiosity and enjoy the fireworks. A backstage tour of how they see the world.
Ideas are 50% you / 50% universe. That missing puzzle piece you’re looking for - you ain’t going to find it sitting at home or being in familiar surroundings. Be in conversation with the world around you and just maybe it will give you the fragment you are looking for.
Nature is the greatest artist. Explore! Study! Appreciate! Connect! In whatever way you can. Nature doesn’t get bogged down in form and medium. Nature always finds a way.

🍿 If you missed our Creative Quests discovery call this week - here is the recording! Sam runs through how it works and answers questions from future Questers.
🍸 The Dry Dispatch is a magazine dedicated to the sober and sober curious. I love an alcoholic drink or 2, but I am seriously here for the rise of non-drinking culture and the creativity that is growing around it.
🙅 How will arts funding cuts in school affect creativity?
🤖 An A.I. hit of fake ‘Drake’ and ‘The Weeknd’ broke the internet this week, raising serious questions around legality and what it means for artists.
📓 “A metalabel is a release club where groups of people who share the same interest drop and support work together.” I adore this reframe of what the creator economy can look like.
🔮 Our boundary pushing, futures-building mates at RADAR are seeking people to form part of their research on PLAY by keeping a play-diary.
🚶🏻♀️ Last year during our Sound Quest I went on an incredible tour of London’s sounds! Dotmaker tours are back with their series of perspective changing walks - hard recommend.
Finally…
This week we changed our Instagram handle name from channel.twelve to @creative.quests. This may not seem like big news, but it marks a real development in the journey of this creative business. Our old handle will be back in action on a new page in a few weeks time.
This year, Channel Twelve has grown beyond just developing our Quest programme and events into consulting. The last 4 months has seen us bring our ideas & approaches to the world of client work - developing some really exciting culture change projects in some incredible businesses.
Channel Twelve continues to be the studio powering our Quests alongside our other projects. Growth feels good!
That’s all for this week. Stay curious out there.
Love,
Sam x
