How to dream future creative pathways
Quest Digest #26 πβπ¨ Last chance to join our Bring Your Own Theme Quest.
THE QUEST DIGEST by Creative Quests is a treasure chest of ideas, stories & opportunities exploring what it means to live an illuminating, creative life. Delivered when inspiration strikes.
Dear Questers,
There are just a few hours left to join our βBring Your Own Themeβ Creative Quest.
Sign ups close at 5pm BST today. Itβs free to sign up to this one.
We kick off our first community call on Tuesday 18th July at 6.00pm BST.
They run weekly till 15th August.
We are continually looking at ways to decentralise our Quest process toward an ecosystem powered by community contribution and creativity.
Last week with the Quest Club we conducted our first ever βTheme Dreamingβ event where we guided some of our Quester community through the process of how we come up with themes for our Quests.
Theme Dreaming follows our five pillar framework, which we call the βFive Pathwaysβ. Each pathway represents a different way to connect with creativity within and around us.
*** If you are joining our Bring Your Own Theme Quest and you havenβt thought of a themeβ¦ use this as a guide!*
We use these pathways as starting points for themes we could explore on a Quest. Here are some examples of where our previous Quest themes fall in each pathway.
πΒ Noticing: Sound, Colour
π€ΈββοΈΒ Moving: Movement
πΒ Making: Poetry, Collage, Storytelling
πΒ Imagining: Time, Home
πΒ Returning: Rewilding
Fun, right?
Five Pathways isnβt just our framework for Theme Dreaming however. Itβs a starting point for exploring those themes in innovative and intersectional ways too. Hereβs what I meanβ¦
Say you have chosen Colour as your Quest theme - which in our minds (all subjective of course) - belongs in the Noticing pathway.
Imagine how you might make Colour βcross pathwaysβ ?
E.G: How could you explore colour through movement? How could you explore colour as a concept? How could you explore colour as a way to connect with nature? How could you explore colour artistically?
Already you have a series of starting points to explore your theme of Colour in an intriguing and non-obvious way. Itβs a simple framework but it always yields results. We use this framework as a starting point to generate ideas for creative challenges, workshops and even longer term projects.
We brought this method to our Quester community earlier this week to collectively dream the theme for our next exploration this October.
Doesnβt it look dreamy?
It was a brilliant experiment that has taken us in a direction that I donβt think we would have ended up at if it was just us at CQ HQ calling the shots.
From this dreaming session we left with a longlist of 12 themes. We at HQ are internally curating that down to a shortlist of 3 themes. These 3 themes will get put to a vote later this week on this very mailing list to decide our Quest theme for October!
Our future To Do list is literally in your hands π
A round up of illuminating discoveries from our worldβ¦
β £ Our friends Stephanie Posavec and Anne Ditmeyer are hosting βCONNECT THE DOTS an interactive, creative workshop about connection, this September in London. This is a collab you donβt want to miss.
π Archive Stories is a website about how to work with creative and non-traditional archives.
π€ The Book Of HOV is a tribute exhibition at the Brooklyn Public Library, Central Branch, recognising Shawn βJAY-Zβ Carterβs extraordinary journey from Brooklynβs Marcy Projects to global figure. Wish we were in NYC for this (the incredible website will have to do!)
π¬ Stack searches out the best independent magazines and delivers them direct to your door.
πβπ¨ Curiosity as an antidote to burnout
π€ Love this offering from The Nudge - who inspire people to be more active and adventurous in their spare time. Sounds like our kind of people.
Finallyβ¦
Iβm personally really excited to run our imminent BYOT style Quest. I canβt wait to see how people use this as a chance to follow their curiosity.
Where Mayβs Quest was all bells and whistles. Weβre taking a more simple, casual approach to this one. Something a little more gentle for the summer.
One day we might find the perfect recipe for Creative Quests.
Or maybe the perfect recipe is just different every time
Last chance to join us!
Big love,
Sam x
