Introducing: Release Day
QD #73 🎆 30th May: Your creative project didn’t have a deadline… now it does.
In this weeks edition…
✷ Time to finally finish those creative projects… Release Day is coming.
✷ A treasure trove of illuminating links!
✷ In London on 10th May? come to our playful picnic in Peckham!
Dear Questers,
Sam here 👋 We just wrapped up a whole month of exploring the theme of MAPS on Creative Quests - one of the best! Some mind blowing projects emerged in the final week, and many more are brewing… this has always been one of the difficult elements of a Quest. A month is simultaneously a good amount of time and no time at all. Especially if you have a more ambitious idea you’d like to bring to life.
Luckily, we have a new experiment to share which we hope will act as a galvanising force for creative projects of all shapes and sizes to be released into the world (yes - yours included!).
Introducing…
🎆 RELEASE DAY
A 24hr global celebration where creative people collectively release their work.
Our first Release Day is Friday 30th May.
🎆 There are many reasons that our creative ideas don't see the light of day...
✷ procrastination
✷ perfectionism
✷ fear of rejection
✷ wondering if anyone will care
Perhaps the biggest barrier to overcoming these feelings and releasing personal creative projects is the lack of deadline.
So we created one.
On Friday 30th May we invite creative people around the world to share and celebrate their creative projects, together.
Think of it as a global firework display for realised ideas.
🎆 What kind of projects can you release?
Anything creative you’ve been holding onto or dreaming up:
🧪 purposeful experiments
the first draft that needs public feedback, the unexpected new creative direction, the weird one off project you wonder whether you should share.
📝 small creations (with big hearts)
the new poem you've been itching to share, an experimental zine to drop around town, a heartfelt personal essay. The type of projects that add to your evolving portfolio.
🏗️ that big project
you know the one. You can’t stop tweaking it. Months or years passed and you just can't hit publish or be confident enough to call it done. It's the idea that could unlock your next level - and it serves no one unreleased!
Everyone's reason to release can be different.
Whether it's pure expression, visibility, or simply to let go.
🎆 How Release Day works:
We're leading by example and trying Release Day out as an experiment. So we’re keeping it simple:
✅ RSVP for updates (if you want to release your work or celebrate others)
✅ During the week of 26th May, you’ll get access to a simple virtual platform to upload a description, link, and image of your project. We encourage you to share in other ways too (online and offline!). This will not be a release platform in itself - more like a gallery so we can all appreciate each others creations.
✅ On 30th May, we’ll reveal everyone’s projects together and host virtual parties to celebrate across time zones. Times TBA.
As this is a pilot, we will be learning and adapting as we go!
Is there something you want to commit to releasing on 30th May? Let us know in the comments!
A good marker of whether something has legs is usually whether you, yourself, feel a need for it. And Release Day feels like the galvanising, collective moment of creativity I need to finally finish and share some personal creative projects.
I really hope this is the nudge you need to finally finish and release your ideas.
