Tokyo Disneyland, Japan - Japanese culture combined with Disney magic makes this a place of wonder and utter joy. The infectious energy of the Japanese visitors who go en-masse wearing group fancy dress is a spectacle in itself... Think groups of 20 friends all dressed as the Aliens from Toy Story. Amazing scenes!

Yakushoma National Park, Japan - the way the light breaks through the ancient trees and catches on the dew drenched mosses that cushion this park is an absolute wonder of the world.

RSPB Rainham Marshes, Essex - on the banks of the Thames Estuary, this former wasteland is a magical haven for wildlife. For a location that's fairly unremarkable on the outskirts of London, it's a sanctuary where you can marvel at nature in it's glory.

1.

The Aiguille de Midi

Chamonix, France

The platform at 3,800m above sea level gives you a full view of Mont Blanc and the surrounding Alps. On a good day, you can see all the way to the Matterhorn in the distance. When you stand there, everything you ever wanted to do feels possible and the world feels like a place truly filled with magic and wonder.

2.

Hostería Chamanapamba

Baños, Ecuador

This feels straight out a fairytale. Run by two brothers, the sons of the couple who built the place, it's nestled up a steep and narrow pathway and unveils itself through the trees. At night, all you hear are the nearby waterfalls and during the day, you're cocooned in green, tucked up in the hills and far from the modern day life.

Top of Bernal Hill (Bernal Heights Park)

San Francisco, CA

Alanna McLeod

You get a panoramic/360-degree bird's-eye view of the City, and can scan all the way over the Bay Bridge to Berkeley/Oakland and the Golden Gate Bridge to the Marin Headlands. It's magical to zoom out and survey the spectacular diversity of San Francisco. (There's also a triangular boulder that "elves" paint periodically; it used to be cute art based on the shape, but has taken on more sociopolitical topics over the last few years: https://www.instagram.com/bernalhillrock/?hl=en)

- The Island of Houat (Brittany, France), a little island that inspired me the few days i stayed there. Everything is simple yet so beautiful.

- The Brocéliande Forest (Brittany, France), hiking there is just magical. Lots of history and legends through the woods and little hills, and if you're lucky you might find the gold tree !

- The Louvres Museum (Paris, France) it's a classic i guess but spending hours wandering around arts from everywhere and every time is a creative and floaty experience for me.

Hiking from Hay Bluff to Capel-y-Ffin, Wales and horseback riding in the Black Mountains, just direct up from Capel-y-Ffin. I also love the wilds of Suffolk. There’s something very accessible about the history and the magic in these areas.

Both areas are thinly veiled places between this world and the next. I have had numerous encounters which have stayed with me. There’s a lot of magic to be had here.

Title of place - House on the Rock

Rough location (City, State/Country is enough) - Spring Green, WI

Your first + last name (if you prefer to stay anonymous, let us know!) - Marc Hughes

A short one sentence description - Opened in 1959, it is a complex of architecturally distinct rooms, streets, gardens, and shops designed by Alex Jordan Jr. (although that description does not do justice to the magic)
